Students learned the process of wastewater treatment

Good sanitation plays an important role in boosting community health and productivity. At the seminar, students learnt about the impact poor sanitation has on public health and the environment, and sustainable wastewater management practices. The students then joined discussions on innovative solutions to local sanitation challenges.

The Acting Mayor of Palembang, the Head of Perumda Tirta Musi, and a representative from Youth Sanitation Concern, a civil society group advocating for better sanitation, attended the seminar. KIAT through PERINTIS shared how using social marketing can encourage households to access improved sanitation.

Following the seminar students visited Palembang’s wastewater treatment plant, which was co-funded by Indonesia and Australia and opened by former Indonesian President Widodo in October 2023.
