Indonesia’s vast road network underpins economic development and supports access to markets and services. KIAT is working with Indonesia to strengthen road governance, connectivity and urban mobility


Key Achievements

Over AUD 374 million in Indonesian budget leveraged for road maintenance across 21 strategic tourism areas

Over 6,000 km of sub-national roads meeting high quality maintenance standards since 2013

3 sustainable Urban Mobility Plans covering metropolitan areas around Denpasar, Semarang and Makassar cities

Indonesia has set ambitious targets to achieve universal safe access to water, and 90 per cent access to improved and safe sanitation by the end of 2024. KIAT is working to improve service delivery, system capacity, and overall cost-effectiveness

New household connections have led to more than 1.5 million people having access to safely managed drinking water services

Key Achievements

A national regulation issued to streamline PPP project identification, planning, preparation, procurement, and implementation across infrastructure sectors in Indonesia

A presidential regulation issued on Limited Concession Schemes for GOI and SOE asset monetisation and Land Value Capture regulations to bring alternative financing for infrastructure 

A screening tool enhanced to assess the climate change and disaster risk (CCDR) exposure and GEDSI integration potential of PPP projects

KIAT mainstreams GEDSI across all its activities and seeks opportunities for civil society engagement to strengthen infrastructure outcomes. To help improve infrastructure policies and regulations, KIAT supports analysis and evidence that can enable women, people with disabilities and members of other intersectional groups to participate effectively in the design, planning, implementation, and monitoring of infrastructure

Indonesia is committed to responding to the threat of climate change by reducing its own emissions and adapting to a climate-impacted world. KIAT is working with the Indonesian Government to better understand and address the risks of climate change across its infrastructure

6 climate Adaptation Action Plans developed with local water utilities to help them prepare for the impacts of climate change

Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Materiality Assessment Tool implemented to help identify and address ESG risks on infrastructure projects, including climate and GEDSI considerations
