The private sector plays a key role in partnering with the government to finance and deliver Indonesia's infrastructure needs. At the event, Australia’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Penny Williams PSM, joined the Director General for Budget Financing and Risk Management at the Ministry of Finance, Suminto Sastrosuwito, to launch three new resources to promote innovative infrastructure financing, including the release of the Ministry of Finance’s updated Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Manual.
In her opening remarks, Ambassador Williams acknowledged Indonesia’s progress in accelerating infrastructure development. She emphasised the importance of collaboration between Indonesia and Australia in sustainable infrastructure development.
"Today's event provides a valuable opportunity to reflect on Indonesia's extraordinary progress in accelerating infrastructure development. It is an honour for Australia to have partnered with Indonesia in this effort. Strengthening the implementation of ESG standards and principles in infrastructure projects can improve sustainability and create a more attractive investment climate and encourage greater private sector involvement in infrastructure development in Indonesia," she said.
The Ministry of Finance’s Director General of Financing and Risk Management, Suminto, in his keynote speech highlighted that infrastructure financing policies must be adaptive to global challenges and aligned with the latest developments. The launch of the Revised ESG Manual is one of the government’s strategic steps in creating an ecosystem conducive to sustainable infrastructure financing.
The Embassy’s Minister Counsellor and Senior Treasury Official, Cosimo Thawley, shared Australia’s
experience in enhancing private sector involvement in sustainable infrastructure financing.
Participants include various stakeholders in the infrastructure, including representatives
from the government sector, multinational institutions, and the private sector.
